Hikeable year round except during extreme high river conditions. The trail is a 5.3-mile loop including return by the 1.7-mile riverside section. Hikers can also return by a park trail (not FTA) from the park's primitive campsite after the first 3.5 miles.

Directions and Precautions
The trail is located on a 700-acre parcel owned by the Southwest Florida Water Management District along the west bank of the Withlacoochee River, east of Dade City. The parcel is managed by the Pasco County Parks and Recreation Department as part of the adjoining county park. Withlacoochee River Park: 352-567-0264.

From the intersection of River Road with US 301 truck route in Dade City, go east on River Road 4.5 miles, and turn right on Auton Road just before crossing a wooden river bridge. The park entrance is immediately on the left. Follow park road signs to the primary trailhead at the canoe dock parking area. Trail can also be entered from the Southwest shelter. Ample paved parking is available at the canoe dock area and at the several picnic shelters.

There are water hydrants within the park. Boil or treat all other water. No water is available at the primitive campsites. No bicycles or horses permitted.
