Attention New Hikers

The following is a list of information on hiking on our trails.

Necessary Equipment

Sturdy shoes or hiking boots - athletic shoes with good ankle support are usually enough for Florida Trails
A daypack with water bottles
A poncho for rain protection
A piece of plastic for a sit-upon
Insect repellent
Sunscreen
A hat
A small first-aid kit
A whistle in case you get lost or injured and need to call for help

Nice to take along

A walking stick
A compass
An emergency blanket
Emergency food
Matches in a waterproof container
A foam mat or chair
A hammock
Handwipes
Ziploc bags
Extra pair of socks
A Swiss army knife

Length of Hikes

Day hikes are usually 3-8 miles in length. Hikes in Florida are not strenuous and are suitable for all ages. The pace is about 2-3 miles an hour on level terrain.
Water and snack breaks are taken every hour or more frequently in hot weather.

Wildlife

Snakes, turtles, wild hogs, eagles, deer, owls, and many other birds can be seen on the trails.
